“Hola Venky!,” a Silicon Valley comedy about a young Indian techie on a twisting path to true love, will release Jan. 25 in select U.S. cities and on Vimeo on Demand in India.
The filmmakers have also tried an unusual new promotional scheme: offering tickets to its San Francisco screenings on the group discount purchasing site Groupon. By going to groupon.com/deals/beyond-dreamz-entertainment, fans can purchase discounted tickets to Beyond Dreamz Entertainment’s screenings of “Hola Venky!”
Tickets are also available to screenings in San Jose, Calif., via the film’s Facebook page.
In addition, film fans can request a personalized, in-house screening at a location of their choice with writer-director Sandeep Mohan himself present to host the screening and lead a Q&A afterward.
According to a spokesperson, “The filmmakers have adopted unconventional methods to facilitate production on a shoestring budget and also for release and marketing of the film, thus setting a successful template that other Indie filmmakers could follow.”
“Hola Venky!” is the second collaboration between Mohan (“Love Wrinkle Free”) and Indian American producer Giju John. The film stars Roger Narayan as a recent transplant from Mumbai who has a sexual awakening during a brief visit to the U.S.
